I work from home for three days and onsite for two days. Communication has always been the key to success. However, a hybrid situation makes communication harder since it is more difficult to reach out to my colleague as well as my manager.
I did encounter some trouble due to miscommunication, sometimes, my colleague/manager missed the message I sent them through Slack, and then I assumed they had received my message and started working on my part. As a result, my work did not fit their standard.
To avoid this incident from happening again. I decided to optimize my communication approach, and I not only send messages but also reach out to them through phone calls and emails. Besides, we started to have online meetings more frequently to get each other aligned to a greater extent. Moreover, I also prepared a content plan for the upcoming week and presented it to my manager and colleagues when I worked onsite.
Another action I have taken is to provide convenience. My supervisor told me it is crucial to provide other people convenience, especially when it comes to working. At the very beginning, I did not properly submit my work. For example, I informed my supervisor that I had finished my blog without sending the link to them because I thought they could find it in the draft box(How rude and inconsiderate I was). It cost them extra time to find my blog, which was unideal and time-consuming. Right now, when submitting my work, I send them the link so that people can access it effortlessly. Also, I created SOPs for my colleagues so they can get things done more timely without struggling(Exp: an SOP about how to upload subtitles onto YouTube videos).
Although I received no feedback or compliment regarding these actions that I took(Maybe because they are just basic work ethics ), my team and I rarely had issues caused by miscommunication. We have been working more efficiently and smoothly since then.
